Items of Interest at this Board meeting include:
PRESENTATION ON SAFETO
The Board will receive a presentation on the SafeTO program, adopted by Toronto City Council in July 2021, with the Board as a partner in the SafeTO Implementation Plan. SafeTO is a comprehensive Ten-Year Community Safety and Well-Being Plan that reimagines core elements of community safety and well-being in order to shift our paradigm from a reliance on reactive emergency response to a culture of proactive prevention. SafeTO inspires us to think differently, work collaboratively across sectors, community and governments, and to do better to bring about a safe Toronto that promotes and celebrates the well-being and resilience of all residents.
SEMI-ANNUAL REPORT ON OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY
The Board will consider a report from Chief Demkiw providing the Semi-Annual Occupational Health and Safety Update for July 1 – December 31, 2022. The report includes information on accident and injury statistics, critical injuries reported, reported exposure to communicable diseases, among other information and related costs.
The report also includes a comprehensive update on Service Member well-being programming. As the report notes, Well-being Coordinator roles have been introduced on the team. These Coordinators will be assigned to a region within the Wellness Unit regional service delivery model and deployed to divisions/units as an embedded and dedicated Wellness presence. The report states that the Wellness Unit will be relocating to three regionally based locations starting in June 2023, with a targeted completion date of spring 2024. The relocation will serve to reduce stigma and create more accessible spaces for members to obtain support and information. As the report notes, other well-being initiatives underway include a System Navigator as intake for all wellness services, and the development of an organizational Addiction Strategy to target support and education around behavioural addictions and substance use issues.
REPORT REGARDING PAID DUTY RATES
The Board will receive a report from Dubi Kanengisser, Acting Executive Director, regarding 2023 paid duty rates. The report provides the Board with notification from the Toronto Police Association with respect to an increase to paid duty rates which took effect January 1, 2023.
As with all meetings, a recording of this meeting will be posted and archived to the Toronto Police Service YouTube account at https://www.youtube.com/TorontoPolice for members of the public to access later at their convenience.
