Chief of Police Change of Command Ceremony

On Monday December 19, 2022, at 11 a.m., the Toronto Police Services Board will host a Change of Command ceremony for Chief Designate of the Toronto Police Service, Myron Demkiw, M.O.M.
The ceremony will take place in the Grand Foyer of Toronto Police Headquarters, 40 College Street. The ceremony will include the swearing-in of Chief Designate Demkiw, including administration of the Oath of Office and the Oath of Secrecy, and remarks from the Chief and special guests.
Chief James Ramer will be piped out of the building in a special ceremony, in honour of his extraordinary career and leadership.
New Chief of Police Myron Demkiw will answer media questions in the TPS Media Gallery at 2:00 p.m.
Due to space limitations, the building will not be open to the public on December 19. For those interested, the ceremony will be livestreamed on the Toronto Police Service’s YouTube channel.
MEDIA PRE-REGISTRATION
All guests and media will be required to undergo standard security measures which may include passing through a metal detector, wanding and/or a request for identification upon arrival at Headquarters.
Pre-registration is required for all media representatives entering Headquarters at any time on December 19, for the ceremony or the news conference, including reporters, camera technicians and photographers.
Media will require identification indicating they are a member of an accredited media outlet to enter Headquarters and/or the Media Gallery.
Only accredited media will have access to designated media areas due to space limitations. News organizations may provide a list of media any time up to 8:00 a.m. on Monday.
Headquarters will be open to media beginning at 8:00 a.m. via the Grenville Street entrance. Please look for the Media Desk upon arrival to check in.

POOL MEDIA COVERAGE
Global News is providing camera coverage of the Change of Command ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. This will be a pool feed for other broadcast media.

MEDIA STAGING & MOVEMENT
PHOTO & VIDEO OPP #1: media risers, a soundbox, and mic’d podium will be provided during the Change of Command ceremony in the main lobby of HQ from approximately 11:00 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.
Media will be required to remain in a designated area near or on the risers during the ceremony.
PHOTO & VIDEO OPP #2: there will be a media area on the north side of College Street in front of TPS headquarters for access to the Chief Ramer’s piping out ceremony taking place at approximately 1:00 p.m.
NEWS CONFERENCE
From 2:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m., Chief Demkiw will be available for media questions.
The news conference will take place in the Media Gallery and will broadcast on Dome Productions and be live-streamed on YouTube.
PARKING / CLOSURES
Toronto Police Headquarters will be closed to the public on Monday, December 19, and will reopen on Tuesday, December 20.
Grenville Street between Bay Street and Yonge Street will be closed to all but local traffic (which includes TPS members). There will be limited parking available for media vehicles on Grenville Street.
College Street will remain open but there will be parking restrictions.
