Toronto Police Service Board Appoints New Chief Administrative Officer

The Toronto Police Service Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Maria Duran-Schneider as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the Toronto Police Service, effective April 20, 2026.

Ms. Duran-Schneider brings over 25 years of experience in the Ontario Public Service, including senior executive leadership across finance, human resources, and operations. Most recently, as Chief Administrative Officer at the Ministry of the Solicitor General, she led efforts to strengthen governance, financial oversight, and organizational performance across Ontario’s policing, corrections, and community safety systems.

Her previous roles include Acting Associate Deputy Minister at the Ministry of the Solicitor General and Assistant Deputy Minister at the Treasury Board Secretariat, where she oversaw planning and expenditure management for major government portfolios.

The CAO plays a critical role in supporting the Service’s civilian leadership, ensuring strong financial management, modern business practices, and a healthy, accountable workplace.

This appointment comes at a time when strengthening organizational culture, accountability, and public confidence remains a priority for both the Board and the Service.

In selecting the Service’s next CAO, the Board prioritized experience in managing large, complex organizations, driving organizational change, and strengthening accountability frameworks. Ms. Duran-Schneider brings a proven track record in each of these areas.

“Toronto residents expect a police service that is well-managed, accountable, and focused on delivering results,” said Councillor Shelley Carroll, Chair of the Toronto Police Service Board. “Maria Duran-Schneider brings the financial discipline, leadership experience, and change management expertise needed to support that work. Her appointment will help strengthen the Service’s internal operations and ensure it is positioned to meet the expectations of the communities it serves.”

“We look forward to welcoming Maria Duran-Schneider to the Command Team and the Toronto Police Service. Her demonstrated leadership in senior executive roles across finance, human resources, and operations will be invaluable as the Service continues to meet the complex demands of policing Canada’s largest city,” said Chief of Police Myron Demkiw.

“I am honoured to join the Toronto Police Service and to support the important work of its members in delivering police services in partnership with our communities to keep Toronto the best and safest place to be,” said Ms. Duran-Schneider. “I look forward to working with the Chief, the Board, and the broader organization to strengthen operations, support our members, and contribute to safe and resilient communities.”
