Response to Ontario Human Rights Commission’s Inquiry into Potential Racial Discrimination and Racial Profiling of Black Persons by the Toronto Police Service

Statement by Andy Pringle, Chair, Toronto Police Services Board

The Board welcomes the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s “Inquiry into Potential Racial Discrimination and Racial Profiling of Black Persons by the Toronto Police Service.”

The Board has worked cooperatively with the Commission in this Inquiry and has been engaged in collaboratively responding to its requests for information, from the beginning of the Inquiry.  We welcome this opportunity to work with the Commission on this important issue as we have done in the past. 

The Board is committed to ensuring that policing services in Toronto are delivered without bias, including racial profiling and discrimination. 

The Board is proud of the Toronto Police Service as an organization of excellence and the work that has been done on this issue to date.  We are always committed to continuous improvement in our policies, procedures, training and governance and we welcome this Inquiry, as it may identify areas for improvement.
